Self-Catering Accommodation of the Year 2024

Marketing Cheshire Tourism Awards — Self-Catering Accommodation of the Year, Winner 2024

Enjoy the Pause was named Self-Catering Accommodation of the Year at the 2024 Marketing Cheshire Tourism Awards. The award recognised this Chester holiday home, not a chain or a portfolio of properties.

The organiser's former results page has since moved and now returns an error, so the website preserves the truthful award statement without sending guests to a broken external page.

Quality and safety

Quality in Tourism — Safe, Clean & Legal assessed, 2023-24Safe Travels, World Travel & Tourism Council

Paula's live site records Quality in Tourism recognition, including Safe, Clean & Legal assessment, alongside the Safe Travels stamp issued by the World Travel & Tourism Council for hosts following its health and hygiene protocols.

These records are part of the business story. A dated assessment is not presented as permanent proof that every later product, process or certificate remains unchanged.

Responsible hosting awards

Responsible Tourism — responsible, ethical, sustainable, 2023-24Plastic Free Champion, Surfers Against Sewage

Paula holds a Responsible, Environmental and Sustainable Tourism (REST) assessment, scoring 76% at the first assessment in 2020. She has also published recognition connected with reducing avoidable single-use plastic and supporting fairer, community-minded tourism, including Plastic Free Champion and Fairbnb.coop.

Those names explain the values behind earlier recognition. They are not used here to imply a current commercial partnership or certification unless Paula holds current evidence for it.

Signed, not yet achieved

In July 2026 Enjoy the Pause made the SME Climate Commitment through the SME Climate Hub and became a signatory of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. Both carry the same targets: halve emissions by 2030 and reach net zero before 2050, with progress reported publicly every year.

They sit on this page because the heading promises commitments as well as awards, but they belong in a different category to everything above. Nothing has been achieved yet. The Glasgow Declaration requires a climate action plan within twelve months of signing, and until that plan and the first figures are published there is nothing here to be proud of, only something to be held to.

Professional standards

Member of the Professional Association of Self-Caterers

Paula is a member of the Professional Association of Self-Caterers (PASC), which represents professional self-catering operators and works on standards, regulation and sector issues.

Membership supports the way Paula runs the business, but it does not replace the property's own policies, risk assessments or the guest's suitability checks.

Why we use Freetobook

freetobookPowered by Stripe

When you book direct, the availability calendar and the payment run on Freetobook. Paula chose a dedicated booking system rather than sending guests to a large travel platform, because it keeps the booking between you and her: no agent commission sitting on top of the price, and no third party in the middle of a question about your stay.

Card payments are processed by Stripe, both through the booking system on this website and for business stays invoiced directly. Booking direct with a one-property business should not mean a less careful checkout than a large platform's, and it does not: card details go to the payment processor, not into this website.

It also means the reviews shown alongside Google come from Freetobook's own record of completed stays rather than from open submissions.

Figures as of 15 August 2026

Guests repeatedly mention cleanliness, comfortable beds, the central but quiet location and Paula's communication. The figures shown are Paula's dated July 2026 snapshot, the same ones the home page carries.

Review totals move as new stays are completed. The snapshot provides context; the current review platforms remain the live record.

Check it for yourself

An award can start the reassurance, but useful detail should finish it. Read the layout, accessibility, booking and safety information, then ask Paula if one point will decide whether the house is right for you.
