Who is responsible
PauseUK Ltd is the data controller for CCTV or smart-doorbell information used for Enjoy the Pause. Paula Revill-Jones has overall responsibility for the system and for responding to questions or rights requests.
What this policy covers
CCTV includes a fixed security camera, smart doorbell or similar equipment capable of recording identifiable images and, where enabled, audio. Recorded images or sound are personal data and are handled under data-protection law and the Enjoy the Pause privacy policy.
The current booking and arrival disclosure identifies the equipment operating for that stay. If hardware, location or recording features change, the disclosure must be updated.
Why cameras are used
Security monitoring is used only for legitimate and proportionate purposes connected with the safety and protection of people and property.
- Help prevent and investigate crime, vandalism or damage
- Protect guests, visitors, staff, neighbours and the property
- Support an appropriate police, court or insurance investigation
- Help establish what happened in a safety or security incident
Where cameras point
Camera positions are chosen to minimise the capture of areas unrelated to the security purpose. Monitoring is restricted to exterior approaches, entrances or other clearly disclosed areas around the property.
There is no CCTV inside the guest living accommodation. A camera must never focus on a bedroom, bathroom, toilet, changing area or another place where a guest has a reasonable expectation of privacy.
Notice and operation
Guests are told about security monitoring before or during the booking journey, and appropriate signage identifies a monitored area. Live viewing takes place only where reasonably necessary for a safety or security purpose.
Access to a live feed or recording is restricted to Paula and another specifically authorised person or processor who needs it for the stated purpose.
Storage and security
Recordings may be held securely by the equipment's cloud provider. PauseUK Ltd takes reasonable steps to choose an appropriate provider, secure access to the account and prevent unauthorised viewing, copying or disclosure.
A processor handling footage on behalf of PauseUK Ltd must do so under suitable contractual and security safeguards.
Retention period
Footage is not retained indefinitely. Routine recordings are deleted when they are no longer needed for the security purpose. A relevant clip may be retained for longer where it is needed to investigate an incident, answer a legal request, support an insurance matter or establish or defend a legal claim.
When information reaches the end of its retention period, it is securely deleted. Any exported still or physical copy is treated as confidential information.
Sharing footage
Footage is not posted online or supplied to the media. It may be disclosed where reasonably necessary to the police, a court, an insurer, a professional adviser, an affected person exercising a legal right, or another organisation with a valid legal basis.
Where practical, images of other people will be obscured before a copy is supplied. A record is kept of material disclosures.
Your rights
You may ask whether CCTV information about you is being processed and may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or objection where the law provides that right.
To help locate footage, include the date, approximate time, location and enough information to identify yourself. Paula may need proof of identity and may obscure other people before responding.
Review and changes
Before adding or materially changing surveillance equipment, PauseUK Ltd considers whether it is necessary, proportionate and less intrusive than the available alternatives. The need for existing monitoring is reviewed periodically.
